This year the 2023 Beaver County Juneteenth Festival on June 17, 2023 at Lefty Cepull Park. Beaver County Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom and resilience that was started in 2020.

Juneteenth is an essential celebration as it marks a significant turning point in American history, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Celebrated annually on June 19th, Juneteenth symbolizes the resilience, perseverance, and enduring spirit of the African American community. The day honors the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union General Gordon Granger, which informed enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, that they were free on June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous occasion not only marked the end of a dark chapter in American history but also served as a catalyst for the long journey towards racial equality and social justice. By acknowledging and celebrating Juneteenth, we not only honor the struggles and sacrifices of our ancestors but also promote unity, understanding, and a commitment to a more equitable future for all Americans.
